NZQA is deferring planned reviews of the New Zealand Certificates in English Language (NZCEL) and English for Academic (EAP) unit standards for a year, from December 2022 to December 2023.
While some initial work may be started earlier, the deferral aims to give schools and tertiary providers a reasonable opportunity to provide feedback, following the disruption currently being caused by COVID-19. A deferral will also allow NZCEL and EAP to be considered alongside changes to literacy and te reo matatini arising through the NCEA Change programme.
A year’s deferral will also support the recovery of international education, while allowing any concerns about the current NZCEL and EAP to be addressed in a timely way.
English Language (EL) unit standards are due to be reviewed in 2023.
