Consultation is now open on a proposal to replace NCEA with a new qualifications pathway.
Evidence shows that the National Certificates of Educational Achievement (NCEA) aren’t working as well as it could for students, families, teachers, and employers. It’s more confusing and less reliable than it needs to be, and the government is proposing changes to make sure that the qualifications students leave school with set them up well for what comes next – whether that be work, training, or study.
The Ministry of Education consultation is open between 4 August and 15 September 2025.
