NCEA, UE and NZ Scholarship data and statistics from 2024

16 May 2025

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) has released its Annual Report on NCEA, University Entrance and New Zealand Scholarship Data and Statistics from 2024.

The report provides data for schools, researchers and anyone with an interest in attainment data and statistics.

The report provides information on:

  • NCEA and University Entrance attainment
  • NCEA and University Entrance Literacy and Numeracy attainment
  • NCEA Certificate Endorsement and Course Endorsement attainment
  • 2024 New Zealand Scholarship awards
  • results by standard type (externally and internally assessed achievement standards and unit standards)
  • results by subject
  • NCEA administrative processes, such as Special Assessment Conditions and investigations into breaches of exam rules.

The report provides data spanning 10 years where possible, disaggregated by gender, ethnicity and equity index (EQI) group.

NZQA has updated its reporting for NCEA Level 1 attainment to include only those Year 11 students participating in a full Level 1 assessment programme of at least 80 credits at Level 1 or above (this includes credits achieved in prior years), rather than all Year 11 students enrolled in secondary schools. For consistency, previous years’ NCEA Level 1 attainment percentages have been recalculated using this approach. This recognises that a third of Year 11 students were not entered for a full NCEA Level 1 assessment programme.
