This morning the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) released the results of the 2023 New Zealand Scholarship examinations.
Across the 37 subjects offered, 2,069 students earned one or more scholarships.
NZQA Deputy Chief Executive Assessment, Jann Marshall, says that New Zealand Scholarship is the highest academic honour for secondary school students in the country.
“New Zealand Scholarship tests students’ ability to apply high-level critical thinking, abstraction and generalisation skills,” Jann Marshall says.
New Zealand Scholarship recipients receive a financial award when they pursue full-time tertiary education or training in New Zealand.
“We are proud of all the students who have achieved this remarkable feat,” Jann Marshall says.
“2023 is the first year for Te Hiranga Te Ao Haka, providing opportunities for students to immerse themselves in Māori culture, language, and traditional practice. This recognises not only the academic rigour of Māori Performing Arts, but also its prominence and value within te ao Māori,” Jann Marshall says.
Students who attempted New Zealand Scholarship can see their results, and whether they received a Premier Award, Outstanding Scholar Award or Top Subject Scholar Award, through the NZQA website.
The names of Premier Award, Outstanding Scholar Award and Top Subject Scholar Award winners will be released on NZQA’s website on the afternoon of 9 February.
