Top Art exhibition launches for 2023

1 March 2023

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) opened the 2023 Top Art exhibition on Monday evening at Massey University in Wellington.

This annual touring exhibition showcases Visual Arts portfolios from a selection of young artists who achieved Excellence in NCEA Level 3 last year. The portfolios cover five fields of Visual Arts: design, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.

“The Top Art exhibition is an opportunity for students to celebrate their achievement with whānau, friends and teachers,” says NZQA Deputy Chief Executive, Jann Marshall.

“These students have created outstanding work, and this is just a small sample of what was produced at Excellence level in schools across the country last year.”

“This exhibition also allows current and future NCEA students to see the high calibre of work they can aim for, as it visits galleries, schools and community centres across the country,” Ms Marshall says.

The Top Art exhibition will be on display in Massey’s Te Ara Hihiko Wellington until 8 March, when it will be split into three tours travelling the country through until September.
