Assessment specifications 2023 now online
Assessment specifications for current NCEA achievement standards and New Zealand Scholarship performance standards provide the annual assessment parameters for each externally assessed achievement standard. They must be read together with the relevant achievement standards. The 2023 assessment specifications are available from 05 December 2022.
Review of Achievement Standards (RAS)
Achievement standards that are currently being trialled and piloted as part of the NCEA Change Package will be reviewed post 2022 end of year examination. Related assessment specifications will be impacted as a result. Updated assessment specifications for 2023 will be published by 31 March 2023. These can be accessed via subject pages on the NCEA website:

What the specifications provide
The assessment specifications:
- for subjects externally assessed by examinations include the:
- format of the paper
- equipment candidates can bring and use
- context for questions, where appropriate
- for submitted portfolios include the:
- format of the assessment
- portfolio/report specifications, including the type and volume of materials that may be submitted as evidence.
Portfolio submission instructions and authenticity requirements will be provided at the end of Term 2.

Use the NCEA subject resources pages to access the specifications for NCEA assessment, and the Scholarship subject resources pages for New Zealand Scholarship, from 05 December 2022.

Assessment specifications for previous years are available on request to NZQA. They are removed from the NZQA website to avoid any confusion.
