Guidelines to support self-review
We have updated our guidelines for self-review in line with the new Code:
Guidelines for self-review (external link)
Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021 (external link)
The guidelines lead tertiary education providers and school Code signatories through the process of undertaking a self-review of their learner wellbeing and safety practices, as required by the Code.
We have made minor updates to align with the new Code. NZQA’s expectations for effective Code self-review have not changed.
Self-review toolkits
We have also updated our self-review toolkits to align with the new Code:
Download the Self-review Toolkit for schools (external link)
Download the Self-review Toolkit for tertiary education providers (external link)
These optional toolkits build on our previous self-review tools for the international and interim domestic Codes and aim to support providers through each stage of the process of undertaking an effective self-review of practice under the Code.
The toolkits contain the following six tools:
- An overview of the Code self-review process for schools/tertiary education providers,
- Tool A – gap analysis template,
- Tool B – key evaluative questions,
- Tool C – possible evidence examples,
- Tool D – action plan template, and
- Tool E – self-review report template.
The tools and templates in these toolkits are optional. There is no requirement to use them. Self-review can be undertaken and documented in the format that suits your organisation’s internal processes.
