How to make sure your school has the right networks and support for digital assessment

It is very important that your school or kura has a secure and strong internet connection. Then you can give your students a successful experience of digital assessment.

We’re working with Network for Learning (N4L) and the Ministry of Education to help schools and kura be confident about the capacity and reliability of your digital infrastructure.

We want to make sure that your school or kura has the right networks to support your participation in digital assessment.

IT infrastructure requirements for digital external assessments

This guide describes the minimum digital infrastructure requirements for any school or kura to support the delivery of digital external assessments.

The baseline digital infrastructure and technology specification will give schools and kura confidence that they can successfully deliver digital external assessment at scale.

Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) and whitelisting

For a secure, authentic and positive experience, we recommend the use of whitelisting, which limits student access only to the digital exam platform and NZQA’s website.

So that this doesn’t affect the rest of the school or kura, you’ll need to segregate your network traffic. This can be done in different ways depending on your setup, such as setting up a VLAN.
