Evaluation
This standard builds on the understanding of sociological institutions established in 8993 and 8994. Key aspects that should be included when developing the evaluation include:
- the structure and organisation of the institution
- the extent of its influence on individuals and society
- social processes that take place within the institution
- variations in the structures over time and place.
The evaluation needs to demonstrate the student’s ability to form a critical opinion based on reasons and supported with a range of appropriate evidence and examples. The student needs to assess the social institution’s influence on society in terms of norms, values and behaviours. They should come to some conclusion(s) about the influence or importance of the social institution.
The student evidence should include evaluative language to show the extension from descriptions and explanations.
