About Ringa Toi

Ringa Toi is an annual exhibition that showcases student artwork with a focus on Toi Māori and Pacific Arts at Excellence level. 

The exhibition includes a range of art across categories.

Each year ākonga from around Aotearoa submit artwork. We present awards for Highly Commended and Commended winners in each category.

Exhibition visitors can also vote for the People’s Choice Award recipient.

Ringa Toi is stepping into an exciting new chapter in 2026 at PĀTAKA Art + Museum in Porirua. 

Located in the rohe of Ngāti Toa Rangatira, PĀTAKA is a dedicated art gallery and museum showcasing the very best in contemporary Māori and Pacific arts, making it a fitting home for Ringa Toi.

We look forward to working alongside the PĀTAKA team to create a special opening event and exhibition experience that celebrates the creativity, and storytelling of our student artists, their whānau, kura, and communities.

Exhibition dates

16 to 30 September 2026

Participating schools and kura will be invited to an evening opening ceremony of the exhibition, as well as exclusive workshops with renowned artists. Workshops will be held during the first week of the exhibition.

NZQA invites you to be part of the eleventh annual Ringa Toi exhibition.

It’s that time of the year again and we are seeking registrations of interest from schools and kura that want to submit student artwork to be considered for this year's exhibition.
