We are pleased to announce that a Te Ao Haka Assessment Symposium will be held in 2026 for kaiako who are assessing or wishing to learn more about Te Ao Haka.
About the symposium
The symposium will support kaiako to learn, develop and master their skills and knowledge enabling them to integrate these into their teaching, learning, and assessment programmes. The symposium will also provide a valuable opportunity for kaiako to network with other kaiako and experts.
NZQA personnel will be present to provide support with queries about assessing ākonga against internally assessed standards and unpacking the requirements for external assessment.
Who should attend?
The symposium is open to all kaiako/kura wanting to know more about assessment for Te Ao Haka – whether you are new to teaching the subject, looking to introduce it at your kura/school, or an experienced kaiako seeking a refresher or support in assessing against the standards.

Registration fee
The registration fee to attend the full 3-day symposium is $150 (inc GST) per person.
Your kura/school will be invoiced for your registration to attend. Please ensure that all required details are completed in the registration form.
A copy of the invoice will also be sent to the email address provided on the form for your records.
Kaiako/kura/schools are responsible for making their own travel and accommodation arrangements. Kai will be provided by the host kura for the day.
How to register
If you are interested or have kaiako that would like to attend the symposium, please complete and submit the online registration form by Friday 18 September 2026.
