Mātauranga Toi Māori assessment symposium 2026

22 August 12:00am - 23 August 2026 12:00am, Ōtāhuhu College, Tāmaki Makaurau, $70 - $120 per person

About the symposium

The 2026 mātauranga Toi Māori assessment symposium is for kaiako who assess or wish to learn more about Whakairo, Taonga Pūoro, Toi Pūoro and Ngā Mahi a te Whare Pora.

The symposium will:

  • support kaiako to learn, develop and master their skills and knowledge, enabling them to integrate these into their teaching, learning, and assessment programmes
  • provide a valuable opportunity for kaiako to network with other kaiako and experts.

NZQA personnel will be present to provide support with queries about assessing ākonga against internally assessed standards and unpacking the requirements for external assessment.

Who should attend?

The symposium is open to all kaiako and kura that want to know more about assessment for one or more wāhanga ako/learning areas – whether you are new to teaching the subject, looking to introduce it at your kura, or an experienced kaiako seeking a refresher or support in assessing against the standards.
