NZQA releases NCEA, UE and Scholarship Report for 2025

14 May 2026

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) has published its Annual Report on NCEA, University Entrance and New Zealand Scholarship Data and Statistics from 2025.

The report provides trusted achievement data for schools, researchers, education partners, and anyone interested in how students are progressing through senior secondary qualifications.

This year’s report includes a new section of Key Observations, highlighting notable data points and trends in a summary form.

The 2025 report includes information on:

·       NCEA and University Entrance attainment

·       NCEA and University Entrance literacy and numeracy attainment

·       NCEA certificate endorsement and course endorsement attainment

·       2025 New Zealand Scholarship awards

·       results by subject, standard and assessment type

·       NCEA administrative processes, such as Special Assessment Conditions and investigations into breaches of examination rules.

Where possible, data is shown across a 10-year timeframe and is broken down by gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic barriers to attainment (School Equity Index Group) to support understanding of trends and equity over time.

NZQA has continued its updated reporting approach for NCEA Level 1 attainment. Results are reported only for Year 11 students who participated in a full NCEA Level 1 assessment programme of at least 80 credits at Level 1 or above (including credits achieved in earlier years).

Supporting evidence-based decisions

The annual report supports planning, policy development, and research across the education system. It also helps schools and communities better understand student pathways, achievement patterns, and areas where additional support can make a difference.

NZQA regularly publishes this data as part of its role in maintaining confidence in New Zealand’s secondary school qualifications.
