How we use data from complaints

What NZQA does with the information from members of the public

How we use data from third-parties or members of the public

When you pass on your concerns about the performance of a tertiary education provider (or a school in the context of the Code of Pastoral Care), we collect data so that we can identify themes in the type of information we receive.

We may report data externally at an aggregate level, and as far as practicable, disaggregated by groups (e.g. domestic or international learners, school or tertiary, etc) as part of our Code Administrator role.

Information might be released

The information you provide to NZQA is subject to public release.

If NZQA receives a request for this material, we will be required to consider its release, in whole or in part, in terms of the criteria set out in the Official Information Act 1982.

The Act requires the information to be made available unless:

(1) it is considered that there is a good reason under the Act to withhold the information; and

(2) that good reason outweighs the desirability, in the public interest, or making the information available.

The grounds for withholding information are set out in the:

Official Information Act 1982 (external link)
