Updates to the suite of reo Māori unit standards
Ko te reo kia tika
Ko te reo kia rere
Ko te reo kia Māori
Tīhei Mauriora!
This is to advise you that NZQA has reviewed the suite of reo Māori unit standards and the new versions of the standards are now available.
What does this mean?
16 new standards have been developed which will gradually replace the current reo standards. The change report outlines the review of these standards:

New domains have been created to house the standards from Level 1 to Level 4:
- Reo Tūāpapa (external link) (Level 1)
- Reo Tumu (external link) (Level 2)
- Reo Waenga (external link) (Level 3)
- Reo Autaia (external link) (Level 4)
The new standards are holistic in nature and support integrated learning and assessment.
Schools and kura who have Consent to Assess for the current reo Māori standards will automatically be granted Consent to Assess for the new reo Māori standards.
Can I still assess against the current reo Māori unit standards?
Yes, version 3 of the Level 1 and 2 standards will remain on the Directory of Assessment and Skill Standards (DASS) until further notice.
The last date for assessment for the expiring level 3 and 4 standards is 31 December 2026.

Assessment support materials are still available for the level 1 to 3 standards.
