Changes have been made to the external assessment opportunities for Te Reo Matatini unit standards in 2025 to better support how ākonga learn and to assist kaiako in their planning and delivery of teaching and learning programmes, along with the gathering and submission of student evidence for these external assessments.
US 32413 Te Reo Matatini (Te Reo Torohū)
Kete Manarua will no longer be offered.
This standard will now be assessed exclusively through Tūmahi Aromatawai Pātahi (TAPā).
US 32415 Te Reo Matatini (Te Reo Whakaputa)
Tūmahi Aromatawai Pātahi (TAPā) will no longer be available.
Instead, there will be two Kete Manarua submission dates.

What do the changes mean for ākonga and kaiako?
US 32413 Te Reo Matatini (Te Reo Torohū)
NZQA will provide the material to assess the TAPā and guidance and support will be provided for kura to confidently facilitate the TAPā.
US 32415 Te Reo Matatini (Te Reo Whakaputa)
Evidence for tuhituhi and kōrero components can be gathered throughout the year. This allows kaiako to determine the most appropriate time to do this, according to their programmes and ākonga readiness. Kaiako will submit evidence for ākonga at either of the two submission dates.
If ākonga do not achieve the standard after their first Kete Manarua attempt, they may submit a new Kete Manarua at the second submission date. The “new” Kete Manarua must show completely new evidence from that submitted previously.
