ISANA NZ will be delivering its second Code symposium, in partnership with Wintec, on 16 June 2025 at Wintec’s campus in Hamilton. The symposium aims to assist practitioners with their tailored support of diverse student bodies (including international students, new settlers, and refugee-background learners). Updating contact information on the NZQA portal

It is important we have the most up-to-date contact information for your school in our system. This enables us to share important Code updates and information or to reach out to the right people when needed. There are currently two key contacts for school signatories in our system, the Principal and Code of Practice contact.

We understand that staff changes happen or that you may have questions about how to update contact information through the NZQA portal.

If either or both of these key contacts have changed we would appreciate you updating the contact details in the portal.

Code spotlight: Code key terms

The current Code has been in place since 1 January 2022. Part 7 of the Code contains 10 outcomes specific to international school learners. These outcomes have been retained from the 2016 international Code and have largely remained the same. But some key terms have changed to align with the 2021 Code framework and terminology.

It is helpful to understand these key term changes so that school signatories, and the staff responsible for supporting international learners, can ensure they are aware of what the Code is referring to and to update the terms used in any policies or processes to align with the Code where necessary. When reviewing school signatories Code self-review reports and discussing the Code with schools, we will be noting and using these updated terms.

Here are the changes to these key terms:

  • Agent becomes Education agent
  • Grievances becomes Complaints
  • International student becomes International school learner and International tertiary learner
  • Student becomes Learner
  • Student with special needs becomes Learner with additional learning needs.
