Supporting school signatories’ understanding and implementation of the Code through capability building is a key focus area for 2025. Our Code 101 workshops will resume in April for school signatories. These workshops are great for school staff or administrators responsible for overseeing the support of a school’s international learners. We will also deliver workshops focusing on international learners and homestay accommodation later in the year.
You can find and register for NZQA workshops (including those about the Code) through our events page.
Many school signatories have well-established practices that support the wellbeing and safety needs of their international students. We are encouraging school signatories whose Code-related policies and processes are well embedded to focus their 2025 self-reviews on Outcome 18: Wellbeing and Safety.

ISANA NZ & Otago Polytechnic Code Symposium
ISANA NZ, in partnership with Otago Polytechnic, will be delivering a Code symposium on Friday 16 May 2025 at Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin.
The symposium aims to assist practitioners with their tailored support of diverse student bodies (including international students, new settlers, and refugee-background learners).
The symposium will include sessions for both school-based and tertiary education practitioners.
This is the first of two Code symposiums ISANA NZ will deliver for the year.
A guide to student complaints
Most learners have a good study experience, but sometimes issues can arise. The Learner guide to complaints, developed by Study Complaints, provides guidance targeted to learners about how and where to raise learner complaints.

The information in the guide could complement your existing policies and processes, including informing international learners on where they can go to for help if issues aren’t resolved.
Keep your details up-to-date
Education Sector Logon (ESL) delegated authorisers can update their school’s key contact details in their NZQA provider portal login page.
The contact details are used by NZQA to send important messages to schools, so it is important to keep them up-to-date to ensure your school stays well informed.
Please review your key contacts’ details on a regular basis and amend the information online as soon as changes occur.
