Background

NZQA appoints and trains all markers each year to mark candidate evidence presented for external assessment. Markers must make valid, reliable, and fair assessment judgements that are consistent with the assessment schedule and the directions of the panel leader.

Panel leaders are responsible for marker training.

Key responsibilities

Markers are required to:

  • attend marker meeting(s) as required
  • assess an allocation of answer booklets/portfolios/reports within a given timeframe
  • make judgements consistent with the assessment schedule and the directions of the panel leader
  • ensure administrative deadlines are met
  • prepare a report for NZQA
  • reconsider and or re-mark answer booklets/portfolios/reports, as appropriate
  • maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the assessment process

Professional and personal qualities

Markers must have:

  • curriculum knowledge and teaching experience for the appropriate level
  • understanding and experience of standards based assessment
  • the ability to work with others
  • the ability to work to stringent deadlines.

Registered NZQA User ID/Password holders

NZQA contractors, will be able to use their username/ID and password to access the application form.
