Visual Arts Verifier
Background
NZQA appoints verifiers to verify the assessment of externally assessed NCEA Visual Arts achievement standards at Levels 1 and 2. Level 1 verification will take place in Auckland, and level 2 in Wellington.
Verifiers work in panels led by national verifiers to ensure assessment judgements are consistent with the national standard.
Verifiers confirm or adjust the provisional grades for the sample portfolios of candidates’ work.
NZQA will provide Guide Notes.
Applicants may be contracted for both levels, or for one level only. Verification for both levels will take place in Lower Hutt, Wellington.
Where necessary, NZQA will provide transport, accommodation, and meals for the duration of the verification process.
Level 1 verification dates 8-15 November
Level 2 verification dates 3-8 November
Key responsibilities
Verifiers are required to:
- work with the national verifier and other verifiers to ensure assessment is consistent with the national standard
- attend meetings and assist with activities at the venue as required
- follow agreed processes when making verification decisions
- contribute to reporting the outcomes of the verification process
- maintain confidentiality with regard to all aspects of the verification process
- work to the timeline and demands of the verification process.
Professional and personal qualities
Verifiers will demonstrate:
- knowledge and understanding of the standards to be verified
- experience and confidence with standards-based assessment
- clear and effective communication and negotiation skills
- the ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with other professionals.

Visual Arts Marker Level 3 and NZ Scholarship
Background
NZQA appoints markers to assess the portfolios of all candidates submitting work for the NCEA Visual Arts external standards at Level 3 and/or NZ Scholarship. Markers work in panels led by panel leaders and check markers for each Level 3 standard.
NZ Scholarship marking will be completed after Level 3 marking for each field with reconfigured panels.
All assessments will take place in Lower Hutt, Wellington. Where necessary NZQA will provide transport, accommodation, and meals for the duration of the marking process.
Level 3 and NZ Scholarship marking will occur from 9 November until 11 December.
Key responsibilities
Markers are required to:
- work with the panel leader, check marker and other markers to ensure assessment is consistent with the national standard
- attend meetings and assist with activities at the venue as required
- follow agreed processes when making assessment decisions
- contribute to reporting the outcomes of the assessment process for Level 3 and/or NZ Scholarship
- maintain confidentiality with regard to all aspects of the assessment process
- work to the timeline and demands of the assessment process.
Professional and personal qualities
Markers will demonstrate:
- knowledge and expertise appropriate to the Level 3 and/or NZ Scholarship standard to be assessed in one or more fields of Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking and Sculpture
- experience and confidence with standards-based assessment in a secondary or tertiary context
- clear and effective communication and negotiation skills
- the ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with other professionals.
Registered NZQA User ID/Password holders
NZQA contractors, will be able to use their username/ID and password to access the application form.
