Kia ora from Aotearoa New Zealand! Thinking about applying for an International Qualification Assessment, or IQA for short? Before you start your application, make sure you have all the required documents ready.

Firstly, we will need the photo and personal information page of your Passport. If there is a page that mentions your parents’ names, please also provide that page.

You will also need to provide all your post-secondary education award certificates. They will help us to see your education pathway to your highest qualification.

Finally, we will need all your transcripts, academic records or mark sheets for each year of post-secondary education to support your application.

If your name on the passport is different from your application or academic documents, you will also need to submit evidence of your name change. This might include a marriage certificate, a deed poll document or an affidavit.

Regardless of which type of IQA you intend to apply for, it is essential at all application documents are full colour scans of the original documents.  We cannot accept black and white copies. Your documents must also be scanned clearly, with no blurred or missing information. Please make sure you scan the entire document with no cut-off edges or missing sections.

If your original documents are not in English, you must provide an English translation by a recognised official translation service for each document. Please note we cannot process your application without the English translation of your documents.

We recommend that you also include a syllabus or study programme description wherever possible, especially if you are applying for a Teaching or Skill Shortage List IQA.

Your application will be put on hold as incomplete if the documents submitted do not meet the acceptable standards, and your application may be cancelled if it remains incomplete. So make sure you have checked all your documents to ensure that they meet our requirements. You can find examples of acceptable documents on our website.

Good luck with your application and we look forward to seeing you in Aotearoa New Zealand!

Kia ora (mabuhay) mula sa Aotearoa New Zealand!

What do you need to apply for an International Qualification Assessment?

Duration: 2:40 minutes

This video explains which documents you will need to apply for an IQA, and how to make sure we can accept those documents.

If you apply for an International Qualification Assessment (IQA) or Overseas Study Assessment (OSA) you will need to upload supporting evidence.

Find information on:

  • the formats we accept for files and documents
  • the details that documents need to contain
  • standards the files need to meet to be accepted.

Upload clear and good quality files with your application

During our evaluation, we need to be able to:

  • read the documents easily and clearly
  • find all the information we need
  • confirm that the documents are complete and authentic.

So we need high-quality scanned copies of your documents.

Requirements for all documents

Formats we can accept

We can only accept these file formats:

  • .pdf
  • .jpg
  • .png
  • .docx

Save all files separately, with filenames that tell us clearly what the file is.

If one document has multiple pages, save it as one file.

Upload each file individually when you apply.

Scanned documents we can accept

We only accept scanned digital copies, in colour, that we can easily read and get information from.

If the original document is in colour, the scanned copy also needs to be in colour. A black and white copy of a colour document will not be accepted.

The scan must show all parts of the document:

  • all edges and corners
  • all information
  • any stamps, seals or instructions.

You do not need to have the copies certified, but you must only upload copies of the original documents.

We check that the documents are authentic

We take fraudulent activity very seriously. We might ask you for additional proof of authenticity for any documents you upload.

You will need to provide instructions for NZQA to directly access your qualification documents from your education provider or with a verifiable verification report from an acceptable document verification organisation.

Acceptable forms of verification

Acceptable forms of verification include, but are not limited to:

What we do if we find false information

If we discover false information intended to mislead others or misrepresent yourself, we will decline your application.

  • We will revoke your recognition statement and end any further applications.
  • We will also inform the relevant authorities and agencies, including Immigration New Zealand, Inland Revenue and the New Zealand Police.
