About this standard

Haka is a traditional Māori war performance or call to challenge, and can be performed by men and women. This unit standard focuses on knowledge and essential skills of haka.

People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of the pūtake and tikanga of haka, and perform haka.

  • Whakatu Waewae 

Level 4 assessment requires the student to perform items from memory demonstrating competency. It is also expected that Level 4 assessments  can be performed in a public setting. 
Students from the Skills New Zealand Rangatahi Maia programmes of Manaakitanga Aotearoa Trust in Rotorua, Pounamu Māori Performing Arts in Auckland and students from Western Heights High School are featured in this video.
