Pūtake troubleshooting

If you're having problems accessing our learning management system, Pūtake, try these tips

Pūtake is NZQA's learning management system. It's available to schools and tertiary providers, as well as NZQA contractors. 

This page contains Pūtake troublehsooting information for users with and without an Education Sector Logon (ESL).

Make sure you're using the right link to access Pūtake

Schools and tertiary providers

You'll use your Education Sector Logon (ESL) to enter Pūtake.

Make sure your school or provider has given you access to Pūtake. Ask the authorised delegator about this and what role you need.

Pūtake error messages and what to do

If you receive a message saying 'The email address is already registered’:

If you receive a message saying ‘To access Pūtake your ESL account needs to have the "Teacher" role assigned’:

Make sure you have access through your school or provider.

Issues with your ESL

If you need help with your ESL login, please contact the Ministry directly:

Users without an ESL

Retrieving your username and password for access to Pūtake

If you can't access Pūtake:

  • select ‘Forgot your username or password’ under the Pūtake ‘Log in’ button.
  • follow the instructions on the ‘Let’s find your account’ page
  • enter the email address you used for the Pūtake account.

Can't remember which email address you used for your Pūtake account? Contact us at lms.help@nzqa.govt.nz. We'll send you an email about resetting your Pūtake account.

Access for contractors

If you're a contractor who needs to access Pūtake, we can give you the appropriate access. Once your contract ends, we will remove access.
