For Achieved, the learner needs to present information on a familiar topic.

This involves:

• ensuring that the presentation is structured and relevant to the topic
• clear sequencing of evidence in connected discourse
• using short sentences and some longer compound sentences
• speaking audibly and comprehensibly, although hesitations, errors and inconsistencies may occur
• using conventions appropriate to the delivery of information.

The learner has presented information about the most important person in her life, her mother.

The presentation begins with a clear statement of topic and content is relevant. Reasons why her mother is important to the speaker are given, including how hard she works to meet her needs and those of her siblings, her qualities as a good mother, and how she has had to be both a father and mother to her children.

Evidence is quite clearly sequenced and connected through the use of conjunctions, e.g. ‘and’, ‘but’, ‘because’, ‘before’ and ‘so’, and adverbs, e.g. ‘also’, to link ideas. Simple, compound and some complex sentences are used.

The presentation is audible and can be easily understood throughout. Pronunciation is clear, and intonation and stress are well used. The pace of delivery is maintained, and hesitations are rare. There are a few inconsistencies in lexical features, e.g. ‘every mothers’, ‘childrens’ and grammatical features, e.g. ‘she put’, ‘can’t be described it in words’ occur, but these do not affect comprehension.

Presentation conventions, including appropriate eye contact, stance and gesture are used appropriately throughout.
