Commentary

For Excellence, the student needs to communicate skilfully in Gagana Sāmoa in relation to a cultural context.

This involves using a range of language successfully and connecting information, ideas, and opinions cohesively. Communication will not be hindered by inconsistencies.

The student has demonstrated consistent mastery of quality language appropriate to the level and chosen context, such as showing generally accurate production of language overall with well-chosen, varied vocabulary and structures which add interest, e.g. “E onomea le ‘ausiva pe a pepese ma mata ‘ata‘ata. O taga a tagata fa’afiafia e fa’atatau lea i le pese. O ma’ulu’ulu I aso ua mavae sa tele tamāloloa sa ‘auai. O taga e lē o fa’atasi.”

The writing is cohesive, with information linked effectively and logical flow demonstrated in the expression of ideas and opinions, e.g. “O le a le ma’ulu’ulu mo le lumana’i? Ou te talitonu o le ma’ulu’ulu e le tele sona suiga i aso oi luma…Talitonu foi o taga ma gaioia o le ā lē faigofie aemaise tagata Sāmoa oi fafo, na o le pau le o le avanoa e sisiva ai o tauvaga siva po’o a’usiva.”
