Low Excellence
91329 Exemplar Low Excellence (PDF | 216 KB)Commentary
For Excellence, the student needs to demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the application of biophysical principles to training for physical activity.
This involves:
- evaluating how and why biophysical principles are applied to training
- explaining the interrelationship between biophysical principles.
The student has evaluated how and why the method of training is applied to training for football (1).
The student has also evaluated how and why the principles of training (intensity and variety) are applied to their training (2).
The student has explained the interrelationship between biophysical principles (methods/principles of training and exercise physiology) (3).
For a more secure Excellence, the student would need to evaluate in more detail the principles of training. For example, specific examples for the principle of training (variety).
High Merit
91329 Exemplar High Merit (PDF | 215 KB)Commentary
For Merit, the student needs to demonstrate in-depth understanding of the application of biophysical principles to training for physical activity.
This involves:
- explaining fully how and why biophysical principles are applied to training
- explaining the interrelationship between biophysical principles.
The student has fully explained how (1) and why (2) the method (continuous) is applied to training for mountain biking.
The student has also fully explained how (3) and why (4) the principle of training (rest) is applied to their training.
The student has explained the interrelationship between biophysical principles (principles and methods of training) (5).
To reach Excellence, the student would need to evaluate how and why the methods and principles of training are applied to training for mountain biking. For example, which biophysical principles are the most or least beneficial, giving reasons why, and supporting these reasons with specific examples from the training programme.
Low Merit
91329 Exemplar Low Merit (PDF | 138 KB)Commentary
For Merit, the student needs to demonstrate in-depth understanding of the application of biophysical principles to training for physical activity.
This involves:
- explaining fully how and why biophysical principles are applied to training
- explaining the interrelationship between biophysical principles.
The student has fully explained how (1) and why (2) the method (continuous training) is applied to training for rugby.
The student has also fully explained how (3) and why (4) the principle of training (variety) is applied to their training.
The student has explained the interrelationship between biophysical principles (exercise physiology and methods of training) (5).
For a more secure Merit, the student would need to explain more fully the principles of training (specificity).
High Achieved
91329 Exemplar High Achieved (PDF | 163 KB)Commentary
For Achieved, the student needs to demonstrate understanding of the application of biophysical principles to training for physical activity.
This involves explaining how and why biophysical principles are applied to training, using examples from their own experience.
The student has fully explained how (1) and why (2) the method of training (resistance) is applied to training for rugby league.
The student has also fully explained how (3) and why (4) the principle of training (overload) is applied to their training.
To reach Merit, the student would need to explain more fully why an additional method and principle of training are applied, and explain the interrelationship between biophysical principles.
Low Achieved
91329 Exemplar Low Achieved (PDF | 55 KB)Commentary
For Achieved, the student needs to demonstrate understanding of the application of biophysical principles to training for physical activity.
This involves explaining how and why biophysical principles are applied to training, using examples from own experience.
The student has explained how (1) and why (2) the methods of training (resistance and continuous) are applied to training for a strengthening programme.
The student has also explained how (3) and why (4) the principle of training (rest) is applied to training.
For a more secure Achieved, the student would need to explain in more detail how and why the principle of training (intensity) is applied (5).
High Not Achieved
91329 Exemplar High Not Achieved (PDF | 211 KB)Commentary
For Achieved, the student needs to demonstrate understanding of the application of biophysical principles to training for physical activity.
This involves explaining how and why biophysical principles are applied to training, using examples from own experience.
The student has explained how and why the methods of training (continuous and fartlek) are applied to training for tennis (1).
To reach Achieved, the student would need to explain how and why the principles of training of specificity (2) and rest (3) are applied.
This annotated exemplar is intended for teacher use only. Annotated exemplars are extracts of student evidence, with commentary, that explain key parts of a standard. These help teachers make assessment judgements at the grade boundaries.
