AS 91270 Clarification

Clarification for AS 91270: Perform two substantial pieces of music as a featured soloist

Clarification details

Updated July 2015. The document has been revised, and now includes DJing as solo performance.

Providing scores

If students are reading off scores for their performances, they should be provided in moderation submissions. Moderators use these to assist in the verification of technical and musical skills as per criteria.

Suggested length of performance

A performance of two pieces of approximately 6-10 minutes in total should allow the level of substantiality required from students. This length will also allow students to meet higher criteria judgements.

DJing as solo performance

DJing is a valid performance context as long as “technical, musical and presentation skills” (Explanatory Note 3) are demonstrated. The student’s performance would need to display, in particular, rhythm and feel together with a confident presentation style to allow the student to ‘communicate’ with their audience.
