AS 91498 Clarification

Clarification for AS 91498: Evaluate physical activity experiences to devise strategies for lifelong well-being

Clarification details

Updated December 2017. This document has been updated to address issues that have arisen from moderation.

The purpose of clarifications

We create clarification documents to help people understand the current requirements of achievement standards. Clarifications do not introduce new criteria, change the intent of the standard, or change what we expect from assessment.

These documents unpack and explain the language and intent of the standard so people interpret and apply the standard consistently. We provide examples or guidance as illustrations only. They are not prescriptions or requirements.

For official requirements, always refer to the current version of the achievement standard as published by NZQA.

Evaluate physical activity experiences

There must be a connection between the physical activity experiences, the judgements about the relationship between the experiences and the potential impact on lifelong well-being when devising strategies.

Making judgements

Student responses must provide clearly identified judgements about the relationship between the physical activity experiences. These judgements should be justified and supported with specific examples from the examination of personal activity experiences to date.

For Merit, coherent judgements should be clear and connected.

For Excellence, coherent and insightful judgements should be clear, connected and show deeper understanding.

Devise strategies

The devised strategies for lifelong well-being should show clear connections to the physical activity experiences to date, for example linking back to influences on previous physical activity experiences, such as, family, friends, environment, socio-economic.

Well-being

Students should include how dimensions of well-being interrelate when connecting the potential impact of the experiences on lifelong well-being and devising strategies for lifelong well-being.

Questioning and challenging assumptions

Student responses must provide a critical evaluation that includes clearly identifying assumptions that relate to their own physical activity experiences which are required to be questioned and challenged.
