Clarification details
Updated December 2017. This document has been updated to address issues that have arisen from moderation.
Health promotion
Students must be fully involved in applying a health promotion process to influence participation in physical activity over a period of time rather than a one-off experience. This will allow students to evaluate a health promotion process.
Action Competence Learning Process
It is suggested that the Action Competence Learning Process (ACLP) is used.
All steps of the process (identifying an issue, developing insight and knowledge, vision, understanding, planning, acting and evaluating) should be implemented and evaluated, since the process is as important as the outcome.
An important step of the process is for the student to clearly define the physical activity issue influencing participation for the targeted group, and identify why it is an issue.
Reviewing the steps in a health promotion process
Students should review each step of the health promotion process (ACLP) and its implementation, supported with evidence.
Making judgements
Judgements should be made about the impact of health promotion process (ACLP) on participation of the group of individuals involved. These judgements should be justified and supported with specific examples from the implementation of the process.
For Merit, coherent judgements should be clear and connected.
For Excellence, coherent and insightful judgements should be clear, connected and show deeper understanding. Judgements should be used to make clear and reasoned modifications to improve the health promotion process (ACLP).
Questioning and challenging assumptions
Student responses must provide a critical evaluation that includes clearly identifying assumptions that relate to the actual health promotion process taken. These assumptions are required to be questioned and challenged. For example, is the ACLP the right model to apply to influence participation in physical activity?
