One social institution is required and two aspects need to be covered in the description; the characteristics of the institution and the influence it has on individuals and society. Commonly used institutions include, kinship and marriage, the family, religion, education, the media and work.

Characteristics

Key characteristics of the institution can include how it is structured and organised, and the processes, values and norms involved in maintaining the institution.

Influence

The influence the social institution has on individuals and society is a significant aspect of the standard where the student should show understanding of the relationship between society and the institution.
