US 9002 Clarification

Clarification for US 9002: Conduct a guided quantitative sociological enquiry

Clarification details

Updated December 2017. This document has been updated in its entirety to address issues that have arisen from moderation.

Guided enquiry

The area of the enquiry, research question or hypothesis and the research method need to be determined by the student and approved by the teacher.

Enquiry process

Evidence for the entire process is required. This includes:

  • planning which includes a research question and research methodology
  • collection of quantitative data
  • analysis of the data to provide findings and a conclusion. The conclusion needs to use sociological concepts
  • identification of the limitations of the research.

Ethical issues

Evidence that the student understands and considers relevant ethical issues needs to be noted.

The sociological enquiry process is further discussed in the Sociology Teaching and Learning Guide.
