Clarification for AS 91366: Undertake development and implementation of an effective manufacturing process

Clarification details

Updated May 2015. This document has been updated in its entirety to address new issues that have arisen from moderation.

Choosing a technological outcome

The technological outcome chosen should be suitable for manufacture and feasible in terms of time frame, resources, techniques and meeting the requirements of the standard. Situating the manufacturing process within an authentic context (for example: a market day, fundraising, camp food, promoting the school, team uniforms or a school trip) should be more motivating for students and lead to greater success.

Implementing the manufacturing process

While students need to manage the implementation process to achieve this standard, they may use other people (e.g. classmates or parents) to help carry out the process. Evidence needs to be organised in a way that clearly documents the student’s decision-making before, during and after the development and implementation of the manufacturing process.

An effective manufacturing process uses feedback from quality control to ensure the majority of the units meet the established specifications and tolerances.
