How education organisations can award and issue certificates and diplomas

Providers must be accredited to deliver study or arrange training for qualifications and credentials.

Award options for education organisations

NZQA encourages education organisations to exercise their rights and responsibilities. However, some will not have the capacity to award qualifications or issue qualification documents.

This may include some receiving organisations that offer work-based learning programmes leading to New Zealand qualifications where assessment occurs wholly against assessment standards on the Directory of Assessment and Skill Standards (DASS).

In these cases, following a request NZQA can:

  • undertake a QualCheck
  • record qualification or micro-credential completion on the New Zealand Record of Achievement (NZRoA)
  • print a qualification document, if required.

This option keeps the education organisation's preference and programme assessment occurs wholly against assessment standards on the Directory of Assessment Standards.
