NZQA National Qualifications Services (NQS) in partnership with leading TESOL teachers has developed two new supporting documents to replace the NZCEL guiding document which was published in May 2019 to support earlier version of the qualifications and standards.
The English Language and English for Academic Purposes unit standards were updated in 2024.
What does the Supporting Document do?
The English Language and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Supporting Document supports assessment against these current versions and their use in both secondary and tertiary settings.
Please review the consultation version below and have your say about the content using the feedback form.
What about New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL)?
The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) Supporting Document is the companion to this document.
Its purpose is to support assessment against the current qualifications, with more of a focus on the needs of tertiary teachers.
A draft for consultation will be published on the NZQA website later in August 2025.
