Proposal to expire Niue Crafts, Niue Music, Niue Tradition and Culture unit standards

NZQA National Qualification Services (NQS) invites feedback on the review and proposed expiry of the of the following Niue Crafts, Niue Music and Niue Tradition and Culture unit standards.

The proposed last date for assessment to take place is likely to be 31 December 2024.

Niue Arts and Crafts / Niue Crafts:

  • Level 2 - 21298, 21302, 21305
  • Level 3 - 21300, 21303, 21306
  • Level 4 - 21299, 21301, 21306
  • Level 5 - 21304

Niue Arts and Crafts / Niue Music:

  • Level 2 - 21310
  • Level 3 - 21311

Pacific Studies / Niue Tradition and Culture:

  • Level 2 - 21315 - 21319
  • Level 3 - 21313, 21318, 21320 -21
  • Level 6 - 21322

These unit standards have been recommended for expiry as part of a scheduled review and following research that identified low and declining usage over time. 

In collaboration with NZQA the Ministry of Education has proposed developing a Pacific Studies Achievement Standard subject, which is on the provisional Level 2/3 subject list currently out for public consultation from 16 June – 11 August.

The proposed Pacific Studies Achievement Standard subject will be designed to embrace the diversity of Pacific peoples, cultures, contexts and traditions. They will allow schools in Niue and Aotearoa New Zealand to validate traditional and contemporary expressions of Niue identities and cultures.
