The outcomes of the 2023 biennial consultation on the New Zealand Scholarship subject list are now live.
NZQA reviews the New Zealand Scholarship (NZ Scholarship) subject list every two years by consulting with the education sector and other interested groups.

These reviews ensure that subjects on the list are sustainable, relevant and continue to meet government goals and sector expectations. They also determine whether a proposed new subject allows students to show the high-level abilities necessary to uphold the credibility of Scholarship examinations.
The consultation period for 2023 was from 8 May to 16 June.
Any changes to the NZ Scholarship Subject List will take effect from the 2025 school year.
NZQA has a focus on equity of access and supporting Māori and Pacific learners for NZ Scholarship. As more mātauranga Māori and other subjects for Pacific languages/culture meet the Subject List criteria, NZQA anticipates proposals to add to NZ Scholarship subjects.
