New online training for teachers new to NCEA

29 February 2024

Teachers new to NCEA can now access a training module about standards-based assessment, as the first of a three-part programme designed to support general assessment practice.

The module was developed in response to requests from schools for more support and guidance for secondary teachers who are primary-trained, new to Aotearoa New Zealand or the Realm nations, and new or returning to teaching.

The module will help teachers gain confidence in using a student-centred approach to assess internal standards. It is available anytime, anywhere, on our learning management system, Pūtake – and can also be accessed by people without a Pūtake login.

The module is self-paced and interactive, and takes about 45 minutes to complete. It is also available as a workbook for those with limited internet connectivity.

The next two modules in this programme will be resources for experienced teachers to extend their understanding of credible assessment for qualifications, and for Principal’s Nominees to develop their leadership of assessment in their schools and kura.

Pūtake hosts our online Assessor Support toolkit, which offers workshops, courses and modules for people assessing different subjects and standards.
