Review of the NZQA Assessment Rules for 2023

We have reviewed the NZQA Assessment Rules for 2023 to ensure that they clearly identify and communicate NZQA’s requirements for conduct in national assessment, and the entitlements or obligations conferred.

You will need to consider the reviewed Rules against your requirements for assessment conduct, to ensure that these remain sufficient and aligned.

The Assessment Rules reflect the principles and policies on which NZQA conducts assessment and awards qualifications. They are enforceable.

The Rules complement the requirements for quality assurance of assessment.

Read the Consent to Assess Against Standards on the Directory of Assessment and Skill Standards Rules and also the associated Guide and assessment practice (assessment standards and specifications or conditions of assessment, Consent and Moderation Requirements):

The Schedules in the Assessment Rules provide further explanation of how they work for stakeholders and provide relevant context.

The updated Rules will be published on the NZQA website on 1 February.
