Assessment Specifications 2024 now online

Assessment specifications for externally assessed NCEA achievement standards related to the New Zealand Curriculum are now available online. This includes the new Level 1 NCEA achievement standards and New Zealand Scholarship performance standards.

Assessment specifications must be read together with the relevant achievement standards.

Please be aware that there may be updates to some assessment specifications in early February 2024 and, if so, this will be indicated in the specific assessment specifications. Changes will be confirmed through a circular in February.

The assessment specifications for subjects externally assessed by examination include details about the:

• format of the paper
• equipment candidates can bring and use
• context for questions, where appropriate

The assessment specifications for digitally submitted, externally assessed subjects include, as appropriate:

• assessment event scheduling
• assessment timing
• assessment method
• assessment format
• assessment medium
• submission date
• conditions of assessment
• submission requirements including file types accepted and size of submissions.

For submitted physical portfolios, they include the:

• format of the assessment
• portfolio specifications, including the type and volume of materials that may be submitted as evidence.

Physical portfolio submissions are permitted only for limited subjects and standards. Please check submission requirements on all assessment specifications.

Submission instructions (for digital and physical submissions) and authenticity requirements will be provided at the end of Term 2.
