Updates to the Base Scope of Assessment (BSAS)

Kia hiwa rā, kia hiwa rā

Kia hiwa rā ki tēnei tuku, kia hiwa rā ki tērā tuku

Kia tū, kia oho, kia mataara!

Tūturu whakamaua kia tīna, tīna

Haumi e, hui e, tāiki e!

NZQA Māori Qualifications Services advise you that the Base Scope of Assessment for Schools (BSAS) has been updated as follows:

  • Māori Performing Arts (Te Ao Haka and New Māori Music) has increased the level covered by the BSAS to include Level 4.
  • Ngā Mahi a Te Whare Pora (Raranga, Tāniko, Taonga, Whāriki and Whatu) has increased the level covered by the BSAS to include Level 3.

Te Ao Haka domain (external link)

New Māori Music domain (external link)

Ngā Mahi a te Whare Pora subfield (external link)

What does this mean?

This means that schools and kura will have automatic consent to assess standards in the domains New Māori Music and Te Ao Haka within the Māori Performing Arts subfield to Level 4 and standards in the subfield Ngā Mahi a te Whare Pora to Level 3.

To assess the standards, a school or kura must have staff with suitable subject and assessment knowledge.

What if a standard is not on the BSAS?

If a school or kura wants to assess against assessment standards that are not listed on the Base Scope of Assessment for Schools, they must apply for an extension of their consent to assess.

Go to the Extension of consent to assess for schools page
