2024 Code Administrator Plan

We have released our 2024 Code Administrator Plan. The plan provides an update on activities and achievements under the 2023 plan and outlines our priorities and activities for the next 12-18 months.

In 2023, promoting the Code, building sector capability and monitoring implementation of the Code were high on our priority list.

Some notable activities included:

  • partnering with student leaders across the universities to promote the Code to other learners
  • partnering with providers, Te Pūkenga, and Universities New Zealand to complete our student accommodation monitoring, and
  • supporting providers in meeting their obligations under the Code through tailored workshops, responding to enquiries, and regular engagement with key stakeholders.

Looking forward

Our priorities under the current 2024 Code Administrator Plan have been informed by requirements under part 8 of the Code and feedback from the sector.

Our key priorities over 2024 are:

  • continuing to engage with learners and the sector to better respond to emerging needs and challenges
  • further building the capability of providers, particularly around self-review, through focused guidance, forums, workshops, and direct contact, and
  • monitoring and reviewing Code compliance to highlight good practice and reduce risk to learner wellbeing and safety.

Some of the activities planned to meet these priorities are:

  • analysing a selection of Code self-review reports submitted by providers to identify emerging trends and look at the effectiveness of Code implementation
  • reviewing homestay accommodation for both school signatories and tertiary providers, and
  • highlighting the new combined dispute resolution scheme (DRS) rules and operator, Study Complaints| Ngā amuamu tauira, to learners and providers.

We would like to thank the learners and key stakeholders who provided feedback and support during the development of this plan.

2024 Code workshops

We host a range of workshops and information sessions designed to support better understanding of the Code and to further build the capability of schools to meet their obligations under the Code.

Our workshops in 2024 will focus on providing more tailored information on the Code, such as:

  • Code 101 for school signatories - an in-depth look at the Code and Code implementation, geared towards school leaders or those responsible for overseeing Code implementation and compliance.
  • Code self-review and attestation for school signatories - an in-depth look at Code self-review and attestation for school signatories.

These workshops are meant to complement the ongoing training and resources tailored to staff roles provided by a school.

Workshops on self-review and attestation will be available later in the year.
