Level 1 sample assessment material for external assessments in 2025

NZQA has published sample external assessment resources for subjects with a change of assessment method from a submitted report to:  

• an examination, or 
• a portfolio. 

The intent of the sample activities is to illustrate how the requirements of an achievement standard may be assessed in an examination.

The sample indicates what examination items may look like, and the sorts of questions or resources that may be used in the actual examination.

Teachers and students should familiarise themselves with the samples as part of their preparation for the actual examinations at the end of 2025.

Accompanying each sample is a draft assessment schedule and some expected candidate responses. These provide further clarification of the expected level of responses to attain at the criteria.  

Read each sample resource alongside the relevant achievement standard and assessment specifications.
