Instrumental performance guidelines

Guidelines to provide instrumental performance advice based on achievement criteria from Music solo performance standards

About these guidelines

These guidelines provide instrumental performance advice based on achievement criteria from Music solo performance standards. Each guideline has been developed by a performance expert/tutor on that instrument or instrumental family.

Individual guidelines outline expectations for Achievement, Merit and Excellence criteria for NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3.

Purpose

The purpose of the guidelines is to help teachers make assessment decisions consistent with national expectations. By referring to the guidelines, together with the New Zealand Curriculum, relevant assessment schedules and NZQA student exemplars, assessors will have available to them a full range of assessment resources and tools.

The guidelines may also be useful for cluster meetings and other discussion forums, beginning teachers and itinerant instrumental tutors.

They are living documents which will evolve, be reviewed and updated when necessary.
