What is student fee protection?
Student fee protection (SFP) protects any money paid by students studying at a registered private training establishment (PTE).
That money is held separately, and paid to the PTE over time, as the course is delivered to the student.
If a PTE stops offering a course, students will get a refund for the part that hasn’t been delivered to them yet.
The student fee protection rules
To maintain their registration, all PTEs in New Zealand have to comply with the Student Fee Protection Rules 2022.
The fee protection rules apply to fees for all programmes and micro-credentials registered PTEs offer, not just NZQA-approved programmes or micro-credentials.
All registered PTEs must have an approved student fee protection mechanism in place before they can accept fees from students.
