Special Assessment Conditions (SAC)

Find detailed information about Special Assessment Conditions, which help to remove barriers to assessment for identified students

Special Assessment Conditions (SAC) are adjustments that meet a range of physical, emotional, sensory, medical, and learning needs during assessments.

They provide flexible ways that learners can access and demonstrate their learning.

They do not make assessments easier or affect how valid assessments are.

Every student has a right to express their knowledge, skills and understanding without being unfairly disadvantaged.

Schools apply to NZQA for Special Assessment Conditions on the behalf of students.

NZQA Rules for Special Assessment Conditions

NZQA has rules about who is entitled to Special Assessment Conditions.

These rules are in Schedule 3 of the:

Assessment and Examination for NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship Rules
