Commentary

The following are sample answers for the three assessment tasks contained in the Teacher Guidelines for unit standard 32305. Holistic assessor commentaries for Achieved, Merit and Excellence are repeated for each task.

There are three tasks, however the two music scores required for 1.1 are spread between Task 1 and Task 2 below. The two scores are ‘The Greatest American Hero’ (Task 1) and ‘Inspired by Zeno’ (Task 2). Both scores are exemplars of instrumental-only scores, i.e. lyrics are not included.

Task 2 contains evidence for 1.2, namely “extracting and exporting conductor’s score and transposed individual parts”.

Task 3 contains a lead sheet entitled ‘Runaway’.

Task 1 - Achieved

32305 Exemplar Task 1 - Achieved (PDF | 157 KB)

Commentary

The candidate has applied knowledge to operate a music notation application.

All the performance criteria from the range 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 have been met.

Features limiting the grade are accuracy and stylistic consistency:

Layout has not been adjusted, notes are missing or entered incorrectly, instrument names missing from individual parts, drums entered in one voice, anacrusis is numbered as bar 1, some instrument parts edited but still have objects colliding, unused voices not hidden, coda and dynamics entered with incorrect text function, some chord symbols are missing.

Task 1 - Merit

32305 Exemplar Task 1 - Merit (PDF | 156 KB)

Commentary

The candidate has applied knowledge to operate a music notation application to create and edit music scores that contain a range of mostly accurate and stylistically consistent notation conventions.

All the performance criteria from the range 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 have been met.

Mostly Accurate: Minor inaccuracies in note input, instrument parts clear to read but not divided by section.

Stylistically Consistent: Drums entered in multiple voices, bar numbering starts after anacrusis, text entered correctly.

Features limiting the grade are:

Refined: Some unused voices not hidden, some objects colliding, bars and systems could be divided by section.
