Managing National Assessment (MNA) Whakawākanga Aromatawai ā-Motu

Managing National Assessment (MNA) is the term used to describe the processes for achieving valid, fair, accurate and consistent internal assessment in schools. It is a partnership between schools and NZQA by which NZQA checks, evaluates and reports on schools’ processes and systems to ensure that internal assessment decisions and systems remain effective.

Marker Kaimāka

A person appointed and trained by NZQA to be responsible for ensuring valid, fair and consistent assessment judgements. Markers assist with the operation of the external assessment process, being allocated a number of answer booklets for which they are responsible for marking.

Master's degree Tohu Paerua

A level 9 qualification with the purpose to qualify individuals who apply on advanced body of knowledge in a range of contexts for research, a pathway for further learning and professional practice.

A Master's degree may equally be multidisciplinary.

Mātauranga Māori evaluative quality assurance Te Whakaū Kounga me te Aromātai o te Mātauranga Māori

Mātauranga Māori Evaluative Quality Assurance (MM EQA) is a partnership between mātauranga Māori and the evaluative quality assurance approach.

There is an important need for a quality assurance approach, which provides a constructive way of coming to a “shared” understanding about an organisation's performance and capability in delivering high quality education from a mātauranga Māori perspective.

National external moderation provides assurance that assessment decisions are made at the national standard.

Monitor Kaitirotiro

An independent person who undertakes monitoring of degrees and related qualifications to provide NZQA with assurance that the degree programme is being delivered in accordance with the requirements of the initial approval and accreditation and that the programme is still degree worthy and meets the needs of stakeholders.
