Range statements Huinga

Range statements provide clarification of the standard, or an outline of the critical evidence to be considered in assessment, to ensure that standards have been met. They may also provide context and clarify limits. Range statements can apply to all outcomes in the standard, an element outcome, or evidence requirements.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) (Te) Whakaaetanga o ngā Akoranga o Mua

"Recognition of prior learning" means a process that involves formal assessment of a student's relevant and current knowledge and skills (gained through prior learning) to determine achievement of learning outcomes of a qualification for the purpose of awarding credit towards that qualification. RPL does not include credit recognition and transfer (See NZQF Qualification Listing and Operational Rules).

Reconsideration (Te) whakaaro anō

Reconsiderations apply to externally assessed written examinations only.

Candidates may apply for a reconsideration if they believe that a paper has not been marked correctly.

Record of Achievement Pūrongo Ako

An individual learner's transcript of unit standards and achievement standards credited and national qualifications completed, provided by NZQA from a national database.

An assessor registered by a national standards-setting body to assess learners. Assessment usually take place in the workplace.

Registration (of private training establishments) Rēhitatanga (o ngā whare whakangungu tūmataiti)

Process for ensuring that a private training establishment is able to provide a sound and stable learning environment.

Establishments are required to be registered before they can be accredited.

Registration (of unit standards, achievement standards) Rēhitatanga (o ngā paerewa, ngā paerewa paetae, me ngā tohu mātauranga)

A process that ensures unit standards, and achievement standards, as set out in the Directory of Assessment Standards Listing and Operational Rules 2011, have received appropriate national endorsement and meet the technical requirements of NZQA. The process concludes when these are entered onto the DAS database. Standards are reviewed periodically.

Reporting (Te) tuhi pūrongo

Supplying information on the progress and achievements of a learner.

Ko te tuku kōrero e pā ana ki te ahunga whakamua me ngā whakatūtukitanga o tētahi ākonga.

Review Arotake

If a candidate believes a processing error has been made in the marking of their external assessment material (eg a section of work not marked, the incorrect transfer of grades or marks), he or she can ask for a review.

Review requests must be made in writing and within a specified timeframe.
