Range statements Tauākī whānui, huinga

Range statements clarify the standard, or outline the critical evidence for assessment, to make sure that standards have been met. They may also provide context and clarify limits.

Range statements can apply to all outcomes in the standard, an element outcome, or evidence requirements.

Ko tā ngā tauākī whānui/huinga, he whakamārama i te paerewa, he whakamahuki rānei i ngā taunakitanga waiwai mō te aromatawai, kia hua ai te tutukitanga o te paerewa. He whakatauira hoki tana mahi, he whakamahuki tepenga anō hoki.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) (Te) Whakaaetanga o ngā Akoranga o Mua

Recognition of prior learning is a process to formally assess a student's relevant and current knowledge and skills gained through prior learning.

It determines if a student has already achieved learning outcomes of a qualification, so the provider can give the student credit towards that qualification.

RPL does not include credit recognition and transfer.

Reconsideration (assessment result) Tirohanga tuarua, Whakaaro anō (whiwhinga aromatawai)

Reconsiderations must be for an externally assessed examination result in a written NCEA or NZ Scholarship examination.

Secondary school candidates may apply for a reconsideration if they believe that a paper has not been marked correctly.

Organisations that receive a completed External Evaluation and Review (EER) report can request a reconsideration if there are process failures, or errors of fact or judgement.

Record of Achievement Mauhanga eke paetae

An individual learner's transcript of the assessment standards, qualifications and credentials they have completed and the credits attached.

NZQA keeps this information in a national database.

Registered assessor Kaiaromatawai kua rēhitatia

An assessor registered by a national standards-setting body to assess learners. They often go into workplaces to assess learners.

A quality assurance process before a private training establishment (PTE) can officially open. The registration process makes sure a PTE can provide a sound and stable learning environment, and quality training.

PTEs must be registered with NZQA before they can deliver NZQA-approved education products.

A quality assurance process to make sure assessment, skill and achievement standards have the appropriate support from stakeholders and meet NZQA's standards and requirements.

Only registered standards are in the Directory of Assessment and Skill Standards.

Reporting (Te) tuhi pūrongo

Telling NZQA about the credits, standards, qualifications and credentials a learner has completed and earned.

Review (assessment result) Arotake (whiwhinga aromatawai)

A secondary school candidate can ask for a review of their exam material if they believe there was a processing error (e.g. a section of work not marked, the incorrect transfer of grades or marks).

You must request a review in writing within a specified timeframe.

Checking that qualifications still do what they were designed to do and meet the needs of the learners, industry and stakeholders.

The developer of each qualification must review in within the set review date.

Review (standard)

Checking that a standard continues to meet stakeholder needs, including in qualifications and micro-credentials.

The outcome of a standard review could be:

  • minimal or no change
  • significant changes
  • expire and not be replaced.
