Panel leader Kaiārahi kāhui

The single pair of eyes with the overall responsibility for leading a panel of markers, setting the standard of marking for external assessments, the quality of marking across the panel and writing the Panel Leader's Report.

Pre-Assessment Result (PRA) Hua Matatau Akahu

A pre-assessment of a qualification that was gained outside New Zealand is required for an 'Expression of Interest' under Immigration NZ's Skilled Migrant Category. A PAR is not sufficient for determining suitability for meeting Immigration New Zealand's Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL) requirements.

It is a provisional and non-binding assessment that does not require any qualifications or supporting documents to be sent to NZQA.

It does not guarantee the result of any future assessment by NZQA.

Principal's Nominee (Te) Tautapa a te Tumuaki

A staff member nominated by the principal of a school, who carries out duties and responsibilities on behalf of the school and liaises with NZQA for the purpose of the administration of all NZQA rules and procedures.

Private Training Establishment (PTE) Whare whakangungu tūmataiti

A private organisation, registered by NZQA, providing education and/or training (refer to section 10 of the Education and Training Act 2020).

Notes:

Some are owned by state organisations so are owned by the State.

If they are registered, they should be under "registered PTE" under Subpart 5 of Part 4 of the Education and Training Act 2020.

Programme (of study) Akoranga (hei whai)

A coherent arrangement of learning or training that is based on clear and consistent aims, content, outcomes and assessment practices, and which leads to a qualification on the NZQF.

Protected terms Ingoa manatā

Organisational and qualifications titles that cannot be used without authority: including university, polytechnic, institute of technology; degree, Bachelor, Master, doctor or postgraduate, and granting awards containing the words, "National/New Zealand".

An organisation supplying education and/or training and/or assessment services; includes schools, institutes, private training establishments and government training establishments.

Provisional entrance Whakauru takitaro

A means of entrance to university for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents under 20 years of age who have left school on completion of year 12. With the phasing in of the National Certificate of Educational Achievement the nomenclature used by the universities is changing to discretionary entrance (For details see the Universities New Zealand website).
