Degree Tohu paetahi, paerua

A qualification that shows someone has completed advanced learning, taught mainly by people engaged in research.

A degree gives general principles and basic knowledge for further self-directed work and learning.

He tohu mātauranga ka tukua i muri i te whakaotinga me te whakatūtukitanga i tētahi hōtaka akoranga whatutoto. Ko tōna tikanga ka tukua e ngā tāngata i roto i te mahi rangahau ka whakaputaina ngā mātāpono whānui me te mātauranga taketake hei pūtake mō te mahi mā te kaitono anō hei whai.

Delivery Tuku

Everything involved in training and assessing student learning. It includes what student learn, how they learn and in what situations, the staff and how they teach, the resources available, and how students are assessed.

Derived Grade (previously Compassionate Consideration) He Tohu Kounga Pūkē; He Taunaki Kī Taurangi (ko te Paetae Whaikoha o mua)

Secondary students can apply for a derived grade if they don't sit an exam, or their performance in the exam is significantly effected. This can be because of illness, accident or a circumstance beyond their control.

A derived grade comes from the current evidence of a student's performance for a standard. The school needs to supply this evidence.

Directory of Assessment and Skill Standards Rārangi Paetae Aromatawai

The Directory of Assessment and Skill Standards lists all assessment standards (unit and achievement standards) and skill standards that NZQA has checked and approved.

Discretionary Entrance Whakauru Matawhāitihanga

Discretionary Entrance allows students to get into university if they didn't do secondary study past Year 12 and are under 20 years of age.

Domestic student Ākonga tara ā-whare

A domestic student is a New Zealand citizen or a New Zealand resident (with the appropriate visa).

The Minister or a Gazette notice might also instruct that some people be treated as if they are not an international student.
